FORT MILL, SC – Four Blogs sponsored by the Association of Industrial Metallizers, Coaters and Laminators (AIMCAL) go live on August 1, 2005, to help members of the converting community locate the information they need about new technology and issues facing their organizations and the industry. The AIMCAL Blogs also serve as a more interactive new home for the popular Technical Q&A section in the Ask AIMCAL part of the association’s website, www.aimcal.org, where readers pose questions related to metallizing, coating or laminating and experts in the technology provide answers.
The Blogs cover four subject areas: Web Coating and Laminating at www.WebCoatingBlog.com, Vacuum Web Coating at www.VacuumCoatingBlog.com, Web Handling and Converting at www.WebHandlingBlog.com, and Specialty Web Coating at www.SpecialtyWebCoatingBlog.com.
“The Web Coating and Laminating Blog focuses on all aspects of the web coating process,” explains Dr. Ed Cohen, AIMCAL technical consultant – Coating and Laminating, who serves as Blogmaster for the site. “It will contain discussions about specific coating process and product technologies from substrates and raw materials through drying. It also will answer specific questions posed by readers and list links to other coating sites.”
In addition to input from Blogmasters, content will be provided by guest authors, who will post “white papers” on various subjects, answer questions from readers and provide comments on industry issues. On the Vacuum Web Coating Blog, “There will be a number of contributing authors so different aspects of metallizing should be well represented,” notes Dr. Charles A. Bishop, principal of C.A. Bishop Consulting Ltd., Middlesbrough, UK, who serves as Blogmaster.
The Web Handling and Converting Blog, under the direction of Dr. David Roisum, president of Finishing Technologies, Inc., Neenah, Wisconsin, presents an array of information about essential web handling topics such as rollers, nips, tension control, wrinkling and winding as well as sections for news, upcoming events and reference materials.
Sections on the Specialty Web Coating Blog, hosted by Dr. John B. Fenn Jr., AIMCAL Consultant – Specialty Roll Coating, include new technical advances, issues facing this segment of the industry, recent news and new products, recommendations of relevant books and articles, and meeting announcements. “The Blog format makes it possible to post a wide array of information,” says Fenn.
Each AIMCAL Blog also has an archive capability so information and discussions can be saved for future reference.
AIMCAL represents converters of metallized, coated, or laminated flexible substrates and their suppliers. The international nonprofit trade association also includes a CEMA Division focused on the interests of converting equipment manufacturers. The group is headquartered in Fort Mill, South Carolina, USA. Membership information is available on-line at www.aimcal.org.
